Save money but keep your journey flexible

Our flexible Off-Peak, Off-Peak Day, Super Off-Peak, Ranger and Rover tickets give you the freedom to choose when you travel but still offer great value. You can use them on any train at weekends, and at quieter times of day during the week. You can buy these tickets any time before the start of your journey.

Off-Peak tickets

Your outward journey must be made on the date shown on your ticket and the return journey must be made within one calendar month. Off-Peak Single and First Class Off-Peak Return tickets are also available for some journeys.

Super Off-Peak

These tickets are available for many journeys to/from the London area, on any train at weekends and at the quieter times of day during the week. They offer even better value for money than our Off-Peak tickets. Super Off-Peak Single fares are also available at half the price of the Super Off-Peak Return, on many journeys.

Off-Peak Day tickets

Perfect for a day’s shopping or leisure trip, these tickets must be used on the date shown on the ticket. They are available for local journeys.

Ranger and Rover tickets

With these flexible tickets, you can travel around a specific area of the First Great Western network, such as the South West or the London & Thames Valley area, for a day or longer. Buy Ranger and Rover tickets online here, by calling 08457 000 125 or by visiting your nearest staffed station.

Try our Night Riviera sleeper service

Our Night Riviera Sleeper train is a fantastic way to travel overnight in comfort, from London to Devon and Cornwall. Book online, by telephone on 0845 678 6980 or at your nearest station’s ticket office.

Travel with children

Pay half fare for children aged 5 – 15, and take up to two children under five free of charge. Children under five travelling free can use a seat, provided it is not needed by a fare-paying customer.

Upgrade at weekends and bank holidays

Weekend First lets you upgrade from Standard to First Class on most First Great Western routes at weekends and bank holidays, for as little as £5. You’ll benefit from the extra comfort that first class accommodation offers, and any complimentary refreshments available, including hot drinks, mineral waters, biscuits and crisps.

The upgrade price depends on the number of zones you travel through - travel within one zone is £5, two zones £10, three zones £15, four or five zones £20. Download our Weekend First zonal pricing map.

Buy your Weekend First upgrade on board any First Great Western service which has First Class accommodation. Please note Weekend First is not available to purchase at ticket offices.

If you need to change onto another First Great Western train as part of your journey, you pay one fare for the whole journey, rather than one fare for each part of the journey.  It is available in conjunction with all standard class tickets and passes.

A First Great Western Weekend First upgrade is not valid on services run by other train operators.

Travel as a group

First Great Western offers discounted travel for groups who are travelling together. GroupSave allows three or four adults and children to travel off-peak for the price of two adults. One adult must be part of the group. Up to four additional children can travel for £1 each return.

Buy GroupSave tickets online (these tickets are available off-peak and will appear automatically when you request tickets for 3 or 4 passengers), from your local station or by calling 08457 000 125.

Online fares will be displayed with a 'G' next to them to indicate that a 'GroupSave' discount has been applied.

Larger groups may be able to save money by making a Group Travel booking – please call 08457 000 125 for details.

Some dates aren't available with Groupsave. Click here to check if you can travel on your preferred dates of travel.
