If your travel plans change after you have bought your ticket, you may need to purchase a new ticket and/or pay an additional fare or administration charge to change your ticket. The refund rules will change depending on what ticket rules apply to your ticket.

You can usually obtain assistance in changing your ticket at any manned railway Ticket Office, by phone or through our website.

Changing an Advance ticket

If you are...
Travelling but at a different time or different date

You must amend your ticket before the stated departure time.

There is a railway standard charge of £10 per ticket. If an advance fare at the price you previously paid is not available on the train you wish to change to, you will also be charged an additional upgrade fare.

If you board a train without changing your ticket, it is invalid and you will be charged a new fare. Advance fares are not available on board, thus the new fare may be considerably higher than the advance one.

Changing a Super Off-Peak/Off-Peak Single or Return

If you are...
Travelling, but at a different time

You can travel on any train within the appropriate time period without changing your ticket.

To change to a different time period, buy an upgrade before you travel, or if that is not possible, on-board.
